During a 1-day seminar “Vibration Testing” organized by the ENMO Academy and hosted by Thales Cryogenics 30 people learned more about Vibration Testing in general. In addition a tour through the lab of Thales Cryogenics, provided by the Lab Manager Ronnie van Leeuwen, was included in the program.

By considering a lifetime of stress and wear into a short period of time, vibration tests can reveal hidden design weaknesses. We need to be sure that products can cope with the shocks and stresses of their service life.

Next to this, where do the actual vibration test profiles originate? Customers, end users or manufacturers who incorporate a component into an assembly, often define vibration test specifications and procedures themselves. These are typically based on experience and knowledge of which design solutions work well and which don’t. Vibration test can provide a more structured approach to understanding failure modes and defects that are caused by vibration.

Furthermore it is essential that the shaker system is appropriate for the test – able to input the necessary vibration types and able to handle the forces generated when testing specific payloads.

All the above topics were covered during this instructive day.

Celebration 125 years of anniversaries

Together with all participants we celebrated 125 years of anniversaries. With a special 100^th anniversary of Thales Cryogenics and a 25^th anniversary of ENMO there was plenty of reasons to celebrate these special milestones together.
